Los Angeles Breakers Football Club

The Westside Breakers girls under 11 team finished the Winter tournament season with an outstanding showing and finish in the California Cup run by the Coast Soccer League and US Club Soccer.   With 24 teams entered, the girls made it all the way to the finals before losing 2-0 to AC Alliance in the championship game.

On their run to the finals, the Breakers scored 12 goals and gave up only 1 playing 5 straight games.  After finishing as a wild card in a tough pool (3 teams from the pool qualified for the quarterfinals), the Breakers played Silver Elite South team FC Blades in the quarterfinals.  The girls came out blazing and scored 3 goals in the first half and never looked back finishing with a final score of 4-0.   The semifinal game against LAFC was a much more difficult affair with both teams battling hard for a place in the final.  In the last five minutes the Breakers finally scored the winning goal off a rebound from a shot from the left side to earn a place in the championship game.

In the championship game, the Breakers played a talented and determined AC Alliance team who defeated a gold team, Irvine Strikers, 3-2 in their semifinal match.  The Breakers came out fast and had the better chances early but AC held firm and then began to counter attack with their tremendous speed up front.  Late in the first half, a great individual effort on the wing by one of the speedy AC forwards resulted in a perfect cross that found a player in front of the goal who calmy finished it off.   In the second half, the AC team came out with an incredible effort and our girls fought back valiantly but, late in the second half, AC was rewarded for their attacking pressure with a second goal to clinch the championship.

We are very proud of the incredible success our girls under 11 team has had this season.  The team won two tournaments, finished second in the silver north league (missing first by one point), made it to the round of 32 of state cup and then finished off their winter season with the runner up medals in the US Club Soccer California Cup with 24 girls under 11 teams entered.  For their efforts, the team will certainly be promoted to the silver elite division for CSL league play next season.  This will be the third straight year that the Breakers girls under 11 team has medaled in league play and earned promotion for the following year.  Congratulations Girls!
